The 23-24 Halekulani Masterworks season finale concludes with Dane Lam conducting Michael-Thomas Foumai’s (HSO Composer-in Residence) epic Hōkūleʻa oratorio, Raise Hawaiki. Setting the words of Nainoa Thompson, Eddie Aikau, and Mau Pialug, Foumai’s sweeping choral symphony voyages through decades of Polynesian wayfinding. Journey through the trials and triumphs of the awakening Hawaiian consciousness, the 1976 maiden voyage to Tahiti, the Mālama Honua worldwide voyage, and the dream to “Raise Hawaiki from the sea.” (Eddie Aikau).

Your HSO launches the 23/24 HapaSymphony Series with BeyondHapa. BeyondHapa is an evening of music that celebrates diversity, and authenticity and features an abundance of Hawai’i-born artists. Mesmerizing songstress Lea Almanza, jazzy Starr Kalahiki, incomparable pianist Lady Laritza La Bouche, the riveting Maddison Westwood , and the legendary Brandy Lee will join your favorite orchestra to bring you a spine-tingling symphonic experience. Renowned Hawai’i performer Cocoa Chandelier will be our host for the evening and we’ll even have a special appearance by the Gay Men’s Chorus of Honolulu.
Dane Lam makes his official debut on the podium as Hawai'i Symphony Orchestra’s first Music Director in its 12-year history. You’ll hear a mash-up of the upcoming 23-24 Masterworks season; including movements from Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich, Rimsky-Korsakov, and more.
